Wild Ferment Assyrtiko from Gaia Wines wins another trophy!

I’m delighted to tell you all that after some tough judging The Top 100 Trophy for the Best White Wine has been awarded to Gaia Wines - Wild ferment Assyrtiko 2014!

This is a tremendous accolade, particularly as this is the first time any Greek wines have featured in the final selection. Let’s be clear - All the trophy winners had to work very hard to get their reward and in next month’s Wine Merchant magazine they will all feature on the front cover of July’s issue as well as The top 100 supplement. This Magazine is sent freely to independents all over the country so this is great PR for our winning wines.

Gaia Wines are based in Santorini, Greece and the Wild Ferment Assyrtiko is made from ungrafted vines which are over 80 years old. Ungrafted vines are very hard to find as they will not have been affected by the Phyloxera bug and are seen as a true expression of wine. The older vines produce much less fruit but the concentration and quality is outstanding.

This wine has been described as Chablis on steroids by many wine lovers.

Gaia Wines produce many other wines and some of their selestion are amougst the finest produced in Greece.
