Domaine Andre Brunel Cotes du Rhône La Becassonne blanc 2016
The La Becassonne white from André Brunel is a superb example of white Cotes du Rhône. This intense white wine has enticing aromas of dried apricots which are followed by a fresh and spicy flavour through to a rounded finish. La Becassonne white is a blend of three classic Rhône white varietals, Rousanne, Clairette and Grenache Blanc.
A family owned Estate comprising of 22 hectares in Chateauneuf du Pape and 11 hectares in the Cotes du Rhone. André Brunel makes wines from Estate grown grapes as well as grapes from his neighbouring growers that he tends in the vineyards. Brunel's hallmark is fruit emphasis with balanced tannins and the fruit flavours lingering through to a long finish.
Vinification
Each grape variety was fermented separately in temperature controlled Vats lasting 15 to 20 days. The wine did not go through malolactic fermentation. The different cuvees were blended together at the end of January following the harvest and the whole wine was bottled at the end of February.
Viticulture
Old vines planted around Sorgues situated 6 km south of Chateauneuf du Pape
Tasting Note
Based on the typical white Rhone variety of Roussanne this is a creamy, full flavoured wine with spicy, mineral notes and a fresh finish.
