Fili Prosecco

The Fili Prosecco Extra Dry is a fruity sparkling wine in a unique bottle shape commissioned for the founder and owner of Sacchetto Vini, Filiberto, who is also the wine's namesake. Prosecco is an Italian white wine made with grapes known as Glera. Italy holds some of the oldest winemaking locations in the world, and is globally renowned for its great wines. The Fili Prosecco Extra Dry is one of Sacchetto Vini's most awarded wines. It is stylish and energising in exterior design as well as taste, making it ideal for celebrations and other happy occasions. Sacchetto Fili Prosecco has won a commendation in the 2015 Decanter World Wine Awards, a bronze placement in the 2015 Sommelier Wine Awards, and a bronze placement in the International Wine Challenge 2015 2nd Tranche.

Winery Information

The Sacchetto family has been making wine for almost a century in the Veneto wine region of northeastern Italy. The estate of 65 hectares was founded in the 1920s by Sisto Sacchetto, and remains a true family winery. Sisto's son, Filiberto, modernised the winery in the 1980s, and later passed the winery to his son, Paolo Sacchetto. The family members now live in the Prapian Estate, which can be found in the DOCG Valdobbiadene Prosecco area. The highest-quality Prosccos come from this region. They produce a variety of wines, from the Fili line to spumanti, frizzanti, and still wines. Spumante wines have strong effervescence and are considered fully sparkling, while frizzanti wines are gently sparkling.

The grapes for Fili Prosecco are de-stalked and gently pressed, then fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks at 18-20 degrees Celsius. Later, the Fili Prosecco wine is blended and re-fermented in pressurized tanks, with the addition of local yeasts for "prise de mousse," or the creation of foam and effervescence. This requires perfect temperature control for the best results of fine bubbles. Yeasts feed on the residual sugars in the wine and produce the carbon dioxide effervescence as a result. The yeast is filtered out after fermentation. It is known as the Charmat method, an Italian technique for creating sparkling wine invented in 1895. It is more efficient than the traditional method used to create Champagne and other European wines, hence this wine's great value.

The foothill microclimate of the Sacchetto's vineyards in the Veneto region is ideal for the acidic, green-skinned Glera grape. Close to mountains as well as the sea, the spring rains and a range of temperatures prepare the vines for a late-season harvest. The soil tends to be a mix of chalky limestone and clay, rich in mineral salts. The hills and steep slopes create a difficult terrain, but the grapes are still harvested by hand. Italy's peninsula shape provides plenty of coastline to help create the climate that wine grapes prefer.

Tasting Notes

With an alcoholic strength of 11.5%, the Sacchetto Fili Prosecco is a fresh, fruity, floral wine with fine bubbles that remains dry despite such sweet source notes. It has a remarkable yeasty flavour as well as a result of the Charmat method. Flavours include melon and pear, and hints of citrus in the clean finish. It is easy to drink and enjoy. It tastes slightly sweeter than traditional dry Champagne, and seems like the ideal refresher to sip on a hot summer day.

Serving Suggestion

This sparkling wine tastes best chilled at 6-8 degrees Celsius and served as an aperitif to be drunk before the meal, or with a light, fresh meal involving meats such as fish. Try it with legume and shellfish soups, noodles with delicate meat sauces, fresh cheeses, and white meats. The wine also complements acidic flavours like capers, lemon, and vinegar.

As an aperitif, it works well for celebrations, picnics, or lighthearted gatherings. This kind of wine should be drunk "young" when it is still new and tastes its best.

Can you explain your shipping charges?

We charge the amount the courier charges us to deliver the wines. In the majority of cases this is £10.00 for a dozen wines. For local delivery we charge £5.00 as we can often do this ourselves, by local we mean Milton Keynes.

Couriers charge by weight and size and a case of wines is both heavy and bulky and so the costs are fairly high. The charges are the same if you are buying 1 bottle or 6 bottles but they change if you go over 6 bottles due the the excess weight and size. Couriers also charge a fee to cover fuel excess and this all goes towards the total cost not to mention the 20% VAT to be added to everything.

Currently if someone orders a dozen wines they are charged £10.00 but if they order 24 bottles the charge is the same!

If you wish to have your wines shipped to other countries the costs are extreemly high and often not worth paying for. The cost for example to ship to the USA for a dozen wines would be £100.00 for the shipping alone! Therefore we have taken the decision not to ship any wines outside of the UK.

What is your minimum order?

The minimum order is 1 bottle! I prefer it if people order more and you get better value with the delivery if you do this too!

What if I want to send wine as a gift?

No problem, we will send to your preferred address and even include a card free of charge!

We have two kinds of cards a blank one and a Thank you one. However if you want a Valentines one or a birthday card or anyother type of card please let us know. We will write your personal greeting and even include the soppy stuff. We don't charge for the cards as its our way of thanking you for choosing us to send a gift to your loved one.

What about a discount?

I may be able to take a little off the price if you ask nicely and there is a large enough order. Please do not ask for a discount on any orders under 12 bottles.  Email me with your requirements and I will let you know if I can do anything. However the best way to get a discount is to sign up for the newsletter as there is often special offers given away to newsletter subscribers.
