Tuscany is the third most planted region of Italy and the domainant grape is of course Sangiovese. There are many other lesser known local varietals and some international grapes are also used in the production and blending of the red wines from Tuscany. One of the most important is Cabernet Sauvignon which is often used when blended with Sangiovese to produce 'Super Tuscan' wines.
