Andeluna Altitud Malbec 2016
Andeluna Altitud Malbec is the baby brother to Andeluna's Pasionado range, but it's a baby brother with some serious kick and a maturity beyond its years. Argentine Malbec of this quality and precision is hard to find for this price, and it's a testament to both the winemaker and Andeluna's prime vineyard sites in the hills of Tupungato that this wine is as good as it is.
On the palate, it's all signature Malbec - lots of raspberry, redcurrant and a hint of blackberry, with a distinct chocolatey, mocha note to the finish and plush, soft tannins. Try it with something Mediterranean, perhaps some ratatouille or a gratin of mozzarella and aubergine or if you prefer meat go for lamb, roasted pork or game.
The wine was matured for 12 months in French oak barrels, before spending a further 6 months maturing in bottle. No animal-based fining agents or winery aids were used during the vinification.
Andeluna is a modern, innovative producer based in Mendoza, Argentina. Utilising the best techniques and consultancy from both the Old World and New, they are producing wines of global prestige with forward-thinking and vegan-friendly technology.
The Altitud Malbec from Andeluna Cellars is a brilliant example of how great Malbec can be when produced by the right winemaker. The Altitud Malbec displays a remarkable array of flavours and aromas and benefits from oak ageing in French casks to add complexity and suppleness to the wine. The tannins are soft and elegant despite the high alcohol content and intensity of taste.
