Carminucci Nuamakos Rosso Piceno 2018

A beautifully balanced and voluptuous wine, full of flavour with notes of plum and smoky black cherry layered with a touch of chocolate.

Producer Note - Established by Giovanni Carminucci in 1928, the Carminucci estate is now run by the founder's son, Piero, who produces high quality wines from organically farmed grapes. The 45 hectares of vines are grown between the municipalities of Offida and Grottammare and within famous, historic DOC territories of Rosso Piceno, Rosso Piceno Superiore, Falerio, Passerina and Pecorino DOCG. Yields are kept intentionally low, which combined with a modern approach in the winery, results in a sought-after collection of wines that truly reflect the grape and the terroir. The wines are highly acclaimed in Italy, winning multiple Italian awards and offer outstanding value for money.

Vintage - The 2017 was a high quality vintage in the Le Marche region. The vintage was characterised by localised patches of early-season frost which affected some vineyards. The summer saw unseasonably warm temperatures and extended dry spells. The vineyards remained healthy and the grapes were picked at excellent maturity. The wines show good body, structure and, surprisingly for the warm vintage, excellent balancing acidity.

Vineyard - Rosso Piceno is the largest DOC of the Marche region located in Central Italy. The area is made up of hilly terrain, which is ideally suited to viticulture. The grapes come from a vineyard located at 250 to 300 metres above sea-level. The soils are based on clay, which combined with the sloping topography, is crucial for draining away excess soil moisture. A Mediterranean climate is found throughout DOC Rosso Piceno, with average annual rainfall of 800 millimetres, mainly falling during the winter months, which builds water reserves in the soils, to nourish the vines throughout the typically hot and dry summers. The vineyards are cultivated following organic principles; herbicides and pesticides are not used. The grapes are manually harvested when they have reached optimal ripeness.

Winemaking - Each variety was vinified separately following careful selection of the clusters. The grapes were destemmed and gently pressed to extract the free-run and pressed must. Fermentation took place at controlled temperatures and was rested on the lees for 12 to 15 days imparting texture and complexity. The wine was blended and then gently transferred to 400 litre French oak casks, where it was aged for 12 months.

Tasting Note - A deep ruby red full of vibrant red fruits, with complex aromas reminiscent of plum and red cherry layered with a touch of liquorice. Beautifully balanced and smooth, with a lovely full texture and a persistent finish.

Grapes - Montepulciano 70%, Sangiovese 30%

Can you explain your shipping charges?

We charge the amount the courier charges us to deliver the wines. In the majority of cases this is £10.00 for a dozen wines. For local delivery we charge £5.00 as we can often do this ourselves, by local we mean Milton Keynes.

Couriers charge by weight and size and a case of wines is both heavy and bulky and so the costs are fairly high. The charges are the same if you are buying 1 bottle or 6 bottles but they change if you go over 6 bottles due the the excess weight and size. Couriers also charge a fee to cover fuel excess and this all goes towards the total cost not to mention the 20% VAT to be added to everything.

Currently if someone orders a dozen wines they are charged £10.00 but if they order 24 bottles the charge is the same!

If you wish to have your wines shipped to other countries the costs are extreemly high and often not worth paying for. The cost for example to ship to the USA for a dozen wines would be £100.00 for the shipping alone! Therefore we have taken the decision not to ship any wines outside of the UK.

What is your minimum order?

The minimum order is 1 bottle! I prefer it if people order more and you get better value with the delivery if you do this too!

What if I want to send wine as a gift?

No problem, we will send to your preferred address and even include a card free of charge!

We have two kinds of cards a blank one and a Thank you one. However if you want a Valentines one or a birthday card or anyother type of card please let us know. We will write your personal greeting and even include the soppy stuff. We don't charge for the cards as its our way of thanking you for choosing us to send a gift to your loved one.

What about a discount?

I may be able to take a little off the price if you ask nicely and there is a large enough order. Please do not ask for a discount on any orders under 12 bottles.  Email me with your requirements and I will let you know if I can do anything. However the best way to get a discount is to sign up for the newsletter as there is often special offers given away to newsletter subscribers.
