Chateau Batailley Pauillac 5eme Cru Classe 2014
Chateau Batailley is one of the most recognised Pauillac estates and Bordeaux wines. This 5th Growth Pauillac is beautifully smooth and elegant wine showing classic cedar and chocolate notes, well structured and with a long, lingering finish. This wine will ages for many years if cellared correctly yet it can be drunk now if decanted at least 2 hours befiore drinking. This wine is delightful when served with lightly spiced meats, steak rossini or braised lamb shoulder.
The vineyards of Batailley today comprise about 60 hectares, dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. Batailley is the flagship of the family Casteja and Borie-Manoux. The name is derived from a battle fought on this territory during the 100-years war in the 14th century. Batailley's wine is an intensive Pauillac typically with blackcurrant and a robust body. The wine continues to obtain very high rankings and recommendations from the international wine press.
Vinification
The wine is vinified in the traditional manner and matured in Limousin oak barrels for 16-18 months.
Tasting Note
A beautifully smooth and elegant wine showing classic cedar and chocolate notes, with age it becomes very smooth and displays black pepper, tobacco and graphite nuances. It is well structured with ripe tannins, complemented by a silky mouth feel and a long, lingering finish. A very aromatic Pauillac with great complexity.
