Chateau de Campuget 1753 Rose 2016
Costières de Nimes, the easternmost appellation of the Languedoc, is effectively part of the Rhône since the climate, soil and topography are so similar to those just over the river in the southern Côtes-du-Rhône vineyards. The relatively uniform soils are marked by large pebbles on gentle, typically south-facing slopes. Château de Campuget was established in 1942 and is a top quality estate near Nîmes, steeped in history. The Château itself was built in 1753 and at the same time, the first vines were planted, prompting the 1753 range of wines that mark this historic date. The fusion of tradition and progression unite in the cellars here, producing wines with integrity, finesse and a wonderful expression of terroir, from a wide range of traditional Rhône varieties.
Vineyard
The terroir in the vineyards is characterised by the Galets or large pebbles that are remnants of Alpine glaciers that have been smoothed over millennia by the Rhône. These pebbles absorb and store the heat from the sun during the day and release it at night, enhancing the ripening of the grapes. The vines here have established a deep root system enabling them to draw the mineral elements they need to grow and providing complexity to the grapes. The Mediterranean sunshine is vital to the maturation and phenolic ripeness of the grapes.
Winemaking
This wine was vinified in the traditional manner, under temperature-controlled conditions. Made from pressed juice and rapid bleeding off or "saignée", in order to preserve the freshness and aromatic purity of the wine. Beautifully packaged, incorporating a glass stopper closure.
Tasting Note
A classic rose petal colour, this elegant, dry rosé shows aromatic notes of grapefruit and delicate citrus hints, through to a refreshing palate of red berry fruits with a lifted finish.
Serving Suggestion
Serve chilled as an elegant apéritif, this versatile wine also works well with grilled fish, summer salads and a variety of seafood dishes.
