Chateau de Campuget 1753 Syrah 2020
The 1753 Syrah from Chateau de Campuget is named after the first recorded wine that was produced by this outstanding Chateau. This classy wine shows a smoky, liquorice and plum character with a hint of dark chocolate and pepper. 1753 Syrah is best served at room temperature to accompany red meats and dark chocolate gateaux. This wine will keep for a few years and has decent ageing potential but lots of people recommend drinking it whilst it is young and vibrant.
Costieres de Nimes, the easternmost appellation of the Languedoc, is effectively part of the Rhone since the climate, soil and topography are so similar to those just over the river in the southern Cotes-du-Rhone vineyards. The relatively uniform soils are marked by large pebbles on gentle, typically south-facing slopes. Chateau de Campuget is a top quality estate near Nimes with a long history. In its cellar, tradition and progress unite to provide aroma, finesse and bouquet. Chateau de Campuget deploys a wide range of traditional Rhone cepage to produce full, easy and spicy wines.
Vinification
Specially selected grapes were vinified in temperature controlled tanks. The wine was made without any contact with oak in order to maintain the fruit character.
Tasting Note
Classic Syrah nose with a very intense fruit-driven character. This wine shows a smoky, liquorice character and a hint of dark chocolate with a lovely smooth and chunky but velvety texture. No oak ageing but bags of complexity.
