Chateau de Suduiraut 1er Cru Classe Sauternes 2004
The Château de Suduiraut Sauternes is elegantly rich and voluptuous with almonds, honey and sweet candied fruits. This Chateau is located next to Chateau Yquem and there is just a single track road seperating the two estates. In comparison to Yquem this is supreme value for money and is one of the finest examples of Sauternes we have ever tried at Wineman. This delicious wine is perfect with all sorts of cheeses and desserts but is versatile enough to drink on its own if you want to enjoy the lucious honey characters without it being too cloying in the mouth.
The history of Chateau Suduiraut, in Sauternes, goes back centuries. After the total destruction of the property by the Duke d'Epernon in the 1600's, Count Blaise de Suduiraut replanted the vineyard and restored the estate to its former glory. The Chateau is a superb example of 18th century architecture. Aristocratic, classical, and bright in style, the Chateau is surrounded by charming gardens designed by Le Natre. The quality of this First Classed Growth is the result of the unflagging attention devoted to its crafting. Extremely low yields foster the concentration of sugars. Each vat is stringently selected.
Vinification
Fermentation in barrels thermo-regulated during 2 or 3 weeks. Ageing in oak barrels (30 % new oak) for 18 - 24 months.
Tasting Note
1st classed growth Sauternes. This elegantly rich wine shows orange peel and mineral notes on the nose. The palate is full bodied with almonds, spice, honey and crystallised fruits through to a lovely, lingering finish.
