Chateau de Valois Pomerol 2012
The Chateau de Valois Pomerol has intense cassis aromas which are followed by hints of toast on the nose. The palate is full of ripe morello cherries and dark chocolate, with big but ripe tannins and a delicious hint of cedar and vanilla on the long, firm finish. This is a superb value for money Pomerol which can be drunk now but will also benefit from a few more years in bottle. Château de Valois was built in 1862 from the restructuring of the original vineyards of Château Figeac. Today the same family owns it and constantly improves the quality and produces great Pomerol wines. The vineyard was totally replanted in 1956.
Vinification
Fermentation took place in small temperature controlled concrete vats for 28 days, followed by 14 months ageing in oak casks, of which 35% were new oak. The wine aged on its fine lees with no racking.
Viticulture
The double Guyot trained vines have an average age of 25 years. The vineyard soils are made up of gravel and sand with subsoil of iron pan.
Tasting Note
Chateau de Valois Pomerol has appealing fresh and primary fruit flavours with added depth from oak ageing.
