Chateau Fortia Reserve Chateauneuf du Pape 2013
The Reserve Chateauneuf du Pape from Chateau Fortia is a powerful and complex red wine with a lovely texture. It is full flavoured and has a wonderful long finish. Made from a blend os Syrah and Mourvedre this is a Chateauneuf du Pape that can be drunk now but will also benefit from careful ageing.
Chateau Fortia is a symbolic estate in Chateauneuf-du-Pape, both for its location and its roots that are closely linked to that of its appellation. In 1929 due to the efforts of Baron Pierre Leroy, Chateauneuf du Pape became the first appellation with a set of winemaking regulations. Today his descendants carry on the long tradition.
The grapes are de-stalked. Fermentation in temperature controlled tanks with a long maceration lasting about 21 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place in large oak barrels. After racking the wine is aged for 12 months in oak casks followed by a further 12 months in bottle prior to release.
Traditional but modern style of Chateauneuf du Pape showing plenty of liquorice and spice with fine tannins and a lovely purity of Syrah fruit through to a long and sustained finish
