K-Lys Clos Troteligotte Malbec 2013
Clos Troteligotte K Lys Malbec is an organic Malbec made by Emmanuel Rybinski in the Cahors region of France. This organic Malbec is made with true passion and the drive to attain the ultimate expression of this wonderful grape. The vines are 25 years old and grown on red clay soils which impart amazing complexity and minerality to the wine. The wine is aged in oak barrels for 24 months on it's fine lees which adds superb depths of flavour to the superb minerality of the wine.
This is one of our new additions to the list and we think all the wines made by Emmanuel are superb. This is a complex and structured wine with oodles of blackberry and elderberry flavours which are complemented by hints of vanilla, leather and intense mineral notes. Superb with all forms of game meat and a delight to drink on it's own if you like full bodied Malbec's.

Emmanuel Rybinski is one of Cahors rising young wine makers. His 14 acre vineyard is certfied as organic and is soon to be declared biodynamic. It is located on a iron rich plateau on the southern borders of the Cahors region of France. The majority of the vineyard is planted with Malbec but there is also 10% Merlot grown here. The respect for the land is apparant and the vineyard practised sustainable farming in all regards.
The vineyard is cultivated organically respecting the environment and enabling the maximum expression of terroir. The 25 year old vines are trained accoring to the Guyot method, with debudding and a green harvest taking place during the course of the year to attain a yield of only 35hl/ha. The soil is calcareous-clay-siderolthic which is a red clay soil composed of limestone and rich in iron, a rarity in Cahors. This unique terroir imparts minerality and complexity to these outstanding wines.
The fruit was selected from an individual plot and then micro plots were vinified seperately. A cold pre fermentation maceration took place prior to fermentation using indigenous yeasts. Manual pigeage extracted the colour and flavours and this was followed by a long maceration under controlled temperatures. The wine was then aged in oak barrels for 24 months on it's fine lees prior to bottling.
