Founded by the Mendez Family in 2002 the Pazo do Mar winery is dedicated to the production of Galician winefrom native varieties Albariño, Treixadura, Torrontés and Godello Mencia. The vineyards are situated 150m above sea level on slate and granite soils, and the climate and weather are influenced by the Atlantic Ocean. The modern winery is kitted out with the latest equipment for the production of quality white wines.
Vineyard
The vines are trained on a trellis which gives the grapes more aeration, leading to better maturation and less acidity in the wine. Only two per cent Albariño is planted this way due to higher costs for cultivation and reduced yields.
Winemaking
Harvested by hand, the grapes are then cold macerated to extract character and body before a soft pressing and fermentation in stainless steel vats. The finished wine is kept in contact with its lees for two months and malolactic fermentation is prevented.
Tasting Note
This Albarino is estate grown and bottled which ensures the quality is superb. It is full of crisp and fresh acidity and has delightful tropical fruit flavours which make it the perfect match to any seafood dish.
