Dona Paula Altitude 969 Lujan de Cuyo

A stunning high altitude blend, where pure juicy berried fruit notes are complemented by hints of jasmine and anise in this elegant and fresh wine.

Producer Note - Doña Paula is a leading, modern winery at the forefront of exploring and investing in new, high quality wine regions in Argentina. Established in 1997, they own all of their vineyards covering 700 hectares. These vineyard sites are located in the best subregions within Mendoza including Ugarteche, Altamira, Gualtallary and Tupungato. The vineyards have always been cultivated using sustainable methods which helps to maximise the true expression of terroir, and in 2019 Doña Paula was certified as a sustainably managed winery by Bodegas de Argentina. Continuous innovation in vineyard management ensures Doña Paula produces top quality wines from one year to the next.

Vintage - 2019 was an exceptional vintage in terms of quality. It was a slightly cooler vintage than average, but with typical rainfall. December and January experienced peaks of high temperatures and due to the shortage of rain during February and March, the grapes were exceptionally healthy. The harvest conditions were the best in decades, allowing the grapes to be picked at the desired maturity.

Vineyard - This wine takes its name from the average height of the selected parcels for this blend. The grapes come from Finca El Alto in Ugarteche, Luján de Cuyo, where the Petit Verdot vines are planted at 1,030 metres above sea level in the stoniest plots which have the presence of calcium carbonate. The Bonarda vines are planted in the lowest part of the same vineyard, at approximately 908 metres' elevation, where the soil is mostly clay with gravel and pebbles. The Malbec also comes from the same vineyard. The double cordon trained vines are drip irrigated and they yield between seven to 10 tonnes per hectare. The climate is characterised by its warm days and cool nights, with thermal amplitude of 14°C and an average annual rainfall of 250 millimetres. At Doña Paula the vineyards have always been managed with sustainable farming practices.

Winemaking - The grapes were carefully destemmed in order not to crush the berries. Each variety was vinified with minimal intervention, in cement eggs. The egg shape helps to keep the liquid constantly in motion, so the temperature is more consistent and the lees remain in suspension. The resulting wine achieves a greater character and volume on the palate. Once the alcoholic fermentation was complete, the wines were blended and malolactic conversion took place. A brief maturation took place within the same cement egg before the wine was bottled early to retain freshness and the purity of fruit.

Tasting Note - A stunning, high altitude blend where Petit Verdot offers aromas of blueberries and jasmine; Bonarda delivers intense notes of blackberries and raspberries and a touch of Malbec adds volume to the palate and a long finish.

Can you explain your shipping charges?

We charge the amount the courier charges us to deliver the wines. In the majority of cases this is £10.00 for a dozen wines. For local delivery we charge £5.00 as we can often do this ourselves, by local we mean Milton Keynes.

Couriers charge by weight and size and a case of wines is both heavy and bulky and so the costs are fairly high. The charges are the same if you are buying 1 bottle or 6 bottles but they change if you go over 6 bottles due the the excess weight and size. Couriers also charge a fee to cover fuel excess and this all goes towards the total cost not to mention the 20% VAT to be added to everything.

Currently if someone orders a dozen wines they are charged £10.00 but if they order 24 bottles the charge is the same!

If you wish to have your wines shipped to other countries the costs are extreemly high and often not worth paying for. The cost for example to ship to the USA for a dozen wines would be £100.00 for the shipping alone! Therefore we have taken the decision not to ship any wines outside of the UK.

What is your minimum order?

The minimum order is 1 bottle! I prefer it if people order more and you get better value with the delivery if you do this too!

What if I want to send wine as a gift?

No problem, we will send to your preferred address and even include a card free of charge!

We have two kinds of cards a blank one and a Thank you one. However if you want a Valentines one or a birthday card or anyother type of card please let us know. We will write your personal greeting and even include the soppy stuff. We don't charge for the cards as its our way of thanking you for choosing us to send a gift to your loved one.

What about a discount?

I may be able to take a little off the price if you ask nicely and there is a large enough order. Please do not ask for a discount on any orders under 12 bottles.  Email me with your requirements and I will let you know if I can do anything. However the best way to get a discount is to sign up for the newsletter as there is often special offers given away to newsletter subscribers.
