Echeverria Cabernet Sauvignon Gran Reserva, Maipo Valley 2017

The Gran Reserva Cabernet Sauvignon from Echeverria is a smooth, silky and savoury Cabernet showing toasty oak character with nuances of coffee and leafy notes.

Producer Note - Viña Echeverria is a family-run estate winery, owned and managed by the Echeverria family. Established in 1930, but with an agricultural heritage going back to the 1700s, Viña Echeverria is as much today, as always, driven by a shared passion for winemaking and an uncompromising search for excellence. Viña Echeverria combines nearly a century of viticulture and winemaking experience with a modern state-of-the-art winery, to produce a range of over 20 quality wines from nine different grape varieties. It has recently been awarded its Sustainable Winery status by Wines of Chile, as well as its ISO9000 certification.

Vintage - The season was marked by a spring without frosts, resulting in a good flowering and fruit setting of the varieties. Higher temperatures during December and February favoured a rapid accumulation of sugar and acidity loss; therefore the vineyards were given an adequate water regime to control the ripening process. Reds ripened slowly as the temperatures returned to normal during March and April . The harvest took place one week earlier than usual and resulted in wines of high quality, with intense fine tannins and high aromatic potential.

Vineyard - The vineyards are located in Maipo Alto in the Central Valley. Alto Maipo reaches into the foothills and produces some of Chile's leading Cabernet Sauvignons. Central Maipo is one of the country's oldest and most diverse productive regions. Rising into the Andean foothills, the Alto Maipo section ranges from 400 to 800 metres above sea level and is highly influenced by the mountains. The afternoon sun warms the vineyards and the cool mountains breezes that slide down the hillsides at night create a broad oscillation between daytime and night-time temperatures, all of which makes for perfect conditions for bold yet elegant red wines, especially the regional star, Cabernet Sauvignon. The soils are alluvial in origin, mostly clay loam and the presence of stone at 80cm.

Winemaking - The grapes were 100% hand harvested into 18 kilogram boxes, carefully selected and then fermented to dryness in 12,000 to 15,000 litre open stainless steel tanks. Fermentation took place with selected yeasts and lasted for eight days at controlled temperatures of between 24to 28°C. Extended skin maceration lasted for additional 10 days, followed by 100% malolactic fermentation. The wine was matured in 225 litre French oak barrels for a period of 12 months.

Tasting Note - Intense aromas of red cherries and black pepper are underpinned by a smoky, earthy background. On the palate it shows mellow, fresh tannins and lingering notes of eucalyptus, with a delicious and persistent finish.

Serving Suggestion - A perfect match for steak, gourmet burgers, ribs, leg of lamb, slow- braised beef, rich creamy mushroom dishes and blue cheese.

Can you explain your shipping charges?

We charge the amount the courier charges us to deliver the wines. In the majority of cases this is £10.00 for a dozen wines. For local delivery we charge £5.00 as we can often do this ourselves, by local we mean Milton Keynes.

Couriers charge by weight and size and a case of wines is both heavy and bulky and so the costs are fairly high. The charges are the same if you are buying 1 bottle or 6 bottles but they change if you go over 6 bottles due the the excess weight and size. Couriers also charge a fee to cover fuel excess and this all goes towards the total cost not to mention the 20% VAT to be added to everything.

Currently if someone orders a dozen wines they are charged £10.00 but if they order 24 bottles the charge is the same!

If you wish to have your wines shipped to other countries the costs are extreemly high and often not worth paying for. The cost for example to ship to the USA for a dozen wines would be £100.00 for the shipping alone! Therefore we have taken the decision not to ship any wines outside of the UK.

What is your minimum order?

The minimum order is 1 bottle! I prefer it if people order more and you get better value with the delivery if you do this too!

What if I want to send wine as a gift?

No problem, we will send to your preferred address and even include a card free of charge!

We have two kinds of cards a blank one and a Thank you one. However if you want a Valentines one or a birthday card or anyother type of card please let us know. We will write your personal greeting and even include the soppy stuff. We don't charge for the cards as its our way of thanking you for choosing us to send a gift to your loved one.

What about a discount?

I may be able to take a little off the price if you ask nicely and there is a large enough order. Please do not ask for a discount on any orders under 12 bottles.  Email me with your requirements and I will let you know if I can do anything. However the best way to get a discount is to sign up for the newsletter as there is often special offers given away to newsletter subscribers.
