This fabulous Clare Valley Shiraz is complex and concentrated with layers of savoury and minty flavours enhanced by chocolate notes together with leather, all enveloped in a velvety and opulent texture.

Producer Note - Certain names resonate strongly within Australian wine history and Jim Barry is one of them. It was Jim Barry's drive that helped shape South Australia's Clare Valley as a benchmark producer of world-class Riesling and cemented it as one of Australia's premier wine regions. Jim was the first qualified winemaker in the Clare Valley, graduating with a degree in oenology from the prestigious Roseworthy Agricultural College in 1947. Founded in 1959, Jim Barry Wines is still family-owned, with three generations of Roseworthy graduates. Jim's son Peter became managing director in 1985 and today Peter's children Tom, Sam and Olivia are the winemakers, commercial managers and brand ambassadors respectively. Voted '2020 Winery of the Year' at the Halliday Wine Companion Awards they produce highly acclaimed and award-winning

wines.

Vintage - The 2013 vintage was characterised by very dry conditions throughout the growing and ripening seasons. Fortunately, the vines had good sub-surface moisture levels to draw on from plentiful winter rains and the fruit was in excellent condition at harvest.

Vineyard - In 1964, Jim purchased 28 hectares of prime land from Duncan McRae Wood and planted his first vineyard with Shiraz. It was an inspired choice of both grape variety and location. The vineyard is characterised by grey sandy topsoil over a clay subsoil. The vines are trained on a single cordon to promote an even canopy and provide optimal shade. The Clare Valley has a high diurnal temperature difference, the cool nights allow the vines to produce an elegant style of Shiraz.

Winemaking - The grapes were destemmed and crushed before being fermented in stainless steel fermenters with heading down boards, which submerged the skins in the fermenting must. This moderated the temperature of the 'cap' while gently extracting colour, flavour and tannins. Pump-overs were conducted twice a day with a rack and return once per day. Fermentation lasted for between 7 to 10 days before being pressed. Malolactic fermentation took place in tank before the wine was racked to French oak where it was matured for 12 months.

Tasting Note - Lifted aromas of blackberry, blueberry briary fruits and perfumed violets are complemented by a lick of toasty vanillin oak. The palate is restrained in its youth but delivers depth and concentration with dark forest fruits, rich fruitcake and a streak of earthy goodness. A wine of fantastic drive and complexity, the delicate grained tannins enhance the lengthy finish.

Can you explain your shipping charges?

We charge the amount the courier charges us to deliver the wines. In the majority of cases this is £10.00 for a dozen wines. For local delivery we charge £5.00 as we can often do this ourselves, by local we mean Milton Keynes.

Couriers charge by weight and size and a case of wines is both heavy and bulky and so the costs are fairly high. The charges are the same if you are buying 1 bottle or 6 bottles but they change if you go over 6 bottles due the the excess weight and size. Couriers also charge a fee to cover fuel excess and this all goes towards the total cost not to mention the 20% VAT to be added to everything.

Currently if someone orders a dozen wines they are charged £10.00 but if they order 24 bottles the charge is the same!

If you wish to have your wines shipped to other countries the costs are extreemly high and often not worth paying for. The cost for example to ship to the USA for a dozen wines would be £100.00 for the shipping alone! Therefore we have taken the decision not to ship any wines outside of the UK.

What is your minimum order?

The minimum order is 1 bottle! I prefer it if people order more and you get better value with the delivery if you do this too!

What if I want to send wine as a gift?

No problem, we will send to your preferred address and even include a card free of charge!

We have two kinds of cards a blank one and a Thank you one. However if you want a Valentines one or a birthday card or anyother type of card please let us know. We will write your personal greeting and even include the soppy stuff. We don't charge for the cards as its our way of thanking you for choosing us to send a gift to your loved one.

What about a discount?

I may be able to take a little off the price if you ask nicely and there is a large enough order. Please do not ask for a discount on any orders under 12 bottles.  Email me with your requirements and I will let you know if I can do anything. However the best way to get a discount is to sign up for the newsletter as there is often special offers given away to newsletter subscribers.
