Kayra Vintage Chardonnay 2017

The Kayra Vintage Chardonnay is creamy barrel-fermented Chardonnay with rich tropical fruit enveloped by smoky notes from beautifully integrated oak and a long, buttery finish.

Producer Note - Kayra is producing premium wines from the Anatolia region -considered to be the birthplace of wine- and is at the cutting edge of winemaking. The wines are made from unique and intriguing local as well as international varieties. These indigenous varieties, while being ancient to Turkey, are being vinified using modern techniques and are producing award winning results. The vines are planted in the best sites following the philosophy of terroir and the vineyards and wineries have been significantly invested in. The ElaziÄŸ winery, located in Eastern Anatolia, was established in 1942 and is dedicated entirely to the production of red wines. The Åžarköy Winery in Thrace was built in 1996 and embraces a cellar for 1,200 barrels, reserved for the ageing of special cuvées. Under the guidance of consultant winemaker Daniel O'Donnell, it is Kayra's aim to reveal the true potential of Turkey and to bring their rich history and generous spirit to lovers of fine wine.

Vintage - The 2013 vintage was typical for the region. The winter was cold and snowy, with enough rainfall to build up sufficient water reserves to nourish the vines during the warm spring and hot summer conditions. The grapes underwent a typical growth cycle, resulting in good levels of maturity and expressive varietal characteristics. Vineyard The Chardonnay fruit is sourced from two areas: the cool, high planes of Denizli and Güney, in the eastern region of Aegean. The vines are grown at 900 metres above sea level on Vertical Shoot Positioning training systems (VSP), on limestone over clay soils. The cooler nights help to impart a refreshing acidity and citrus notes to the wine.

Winemaking - The berries from two of Turkey's more prominent wine regions were whole cluster pressed. Only the free run juice and the juice of the first press were vinified. 50% was fermented in stainless steel tank and 50% in barrel, where 100% underwent malolactic fermentation. The wine was then matured in barrel, of which 20% was new French oak and the remainder was neutral oak; for a period of 16 months. The blending of the two different vineyards and the two different fermentation styles has resulted in a wine of youthfulness and complexity.

Tasting Note - An elegant, barrel-fermented Chardonnay, showing enticing aromas of tropical fruits, orange and green plum, enveloped by toasty, buttery notes. The creamy, full bodied palate is harmoniously balanced with a lively acidity and a long, buttery finish.

Serving Suggestion - Seafood; grilled fish; poultry in a creamy sauce; or soft cheese such as Brie.

Can you explain your shipping charges?

We charge the amount the courier charges us to deliver the wines. In the majority of cases this is £10.00 for a dozen wines. For local delivery we charge £5.00 as we can often do this ourselves, by local we mean Milton Keynes.

Couriers charge by weight and size and a case of wines is both heavy and bulky and so the costs are fairly high. The charges are the same if you are buying 1 bottle or 6 bottles but they change if you go over 6 bottles due the the excess weight and size. Couriers also charge a fee to cover fuel excess and this all goes towards the total cost not to mention the 20% VAT to be added to everything.

Currently if someone orders a dozen wines they are charged £10.00 but if they order 24 bottles the charge is the same!

If you wish to have your wines shipped to other countries the costs are extreemly high and often not worth paying for. The cost for example to ship to the USA for a dozen wines would be £100.00 for the shipping alone! Therefore we have taken the decision not to ship any wines outside of the UK.

What is your minimum order?

The minimum order is 1 bottle! I prefer it if people order more and you get better value with the delivery if you do this too!

What if I want to send wine as a gift?

No problem, we will send to your preferred address and even include a card free of charge!

We have two kinds of cards a blank one and a Thank you one. However if you want a Valentines one or a birthday card or anyother type of card please let us know. We will write your personal greeting and even include the soppy stuff. We don't charge for the cards as its our way of thanking you for choosing us to send a gift to your loved one.

What about a discount?

I may be able to take a little off the price if you ask nicely and there is a large enough order. Please do not ask for a discount on any orders under 12 bottles.  Email me with your requirements and I will let you know if I can do anything. However the best way to get a discount is to sign up for the newsletter as there is often special offers given away to newsletter subscribers.
