Marchesi De' Frescobaldi Pomino Bianco DOC, Castello di Pomino 2019
One of the major and largest vine growing businesses in Europe, Frescobaldi owns nine estates covering over 1,000 ha of vineyards, all located in excellent areas for fine wines. Directly managed by its family members, Frescobaldi produces almost 7 million bottles and the wines are exported to over 60 countries throughout the world. The Frescobaldi name goes back many centuries into the history of art, culture, trade and finance of Italy in general and Tuscany in particular. Vinification
The grapes were softly pressed. Fermentation took place 80% in stainless steel vats and 20% (of the riper grapes) in French Oak barriques. Fermentation lasted for 21 days at 16 - 18C in stainless steel tanks and at 19-23C in barriques. Malolactic fermentation is limited to the barrel fermented part. Following the final blending this wine spends a further month in bottle prior to release.
Viticulture
Spur pruned cordon and guyot vines with an average age of more than 20 years old. High density planting with more than 5,000 vines per hectare.
Tasting Note
Made from mostly Chardonnay with some Pinot Blanc, this wine has a fresh and enticing bouquet of green apples, peaches and a fresh and youthful flavour.
Everyday Serving Suggestion
A fine wine for apéritifs, vegetarian antipasti, or rich fish such as salmon.
