Larry Cherubino Margaret River Chardonnay 2018
The Margaret River Chardonnay from Larry Cherubino is high ultimate expression of grape and place. This dry white wine is superb when served with pan fried snapper or scallop risotto but if you like good firm Chardonnay's with integrated oak then you won't get much better than this wine.
Named 'Winery of the Year' in James Halliday's 2011 Wine Companion, Larry Cherubino wants his wines to be distinctive and to speak clearly of their variety and vineyard site. He believes in spending time in the vineyard, in paying attention to canopy and water management, and most importantly, picking at the right time with minimal interference in the winery. From delicate whites to big reds his wines have class and finesse. The prodigious Australian producer also makes wine under the Laissez Faire name. These are a range of natural wines, and they are the ultimate expression of natural winemaking made in small batches from hand-harvested grapes.
Winemaking
The fruit was handpicked and pressed directly to both new and 1 year old French oak barrels. No additions were made to the wine, it was naturally fermented.
Tasting Note
This Chardonnay is a very clean, pale lemon wine with hints of nutty goodness on the nose. Slight oaky characteristics give this wine many layers. The flinty, gun-smoke aromas, balanced with the distinctive flavours of citrus, give this wine a deliciously long finish. The clean, ripe fruit offers great balance and restraint.
Serving Suggestion
Pan fried snapper, scallop risotto or barbecued crayfish.
