Medici Ermete Lambrusco Rosso Secco La Favourita, Reggiano
The Lambrusco Rosso from Medici Ermete is full flavoured semi-sparkling dry and fleshy red wine with fresh raspberry fruit.
Producer Note - The Medici winery has been producing a top-of-the-range Lambrusco for over a century. It all began with Remigio Medici, who founded a wine cellar in the late 19th century, with the aim of making the most of the family vineyards, located between the Via Emilia and the first of the hills in the Enza valley. Today the company owns 60 hectares of land spread out among the finest wine-growing areas in the Emilia Romagna region. An uncompromising quality philosophy leads the winemaking of this family who was duely rewarded by superb reviews, and awards such as Tre Bicchieri, placing Lambrusco among Italy's top wines. The Favorita range is the latest born of this long story of passionate winemakers.
Vineyard - What lies behind the family's success, is the idea of creating a close link between the individual vineyards and the wines produced, along with a meticulous selection of the grapes, to ensure the highest quality. There are 60 different Lambrusco grapes varieties in Emilia Romagna, this wine is made from the Lambrusco Salamino and Lambrusco Marani varieties, which are planted according to the Cordon system. Yields are carefully controlled and are maintained at 30 to 40% lower than the quantity required to comply with the regulations, which govern the DOC.
Winemaking - This Lambrusco has been naturally bottle-fermented, following the traditional method of making sparkling wine. TastingNote An intense ruby red wine, which shows pleasant and persistent red fruit aromas combined with hints of violet. Fleshy on the palate with a rich harmonious body and fresh raspberries and blackcurrant flavours on the delicate finish.
Serving Suggestion - Delicious with Emilia Romagna's famous dishes: pasta bolognese, cheese tortellini, Parma ham and Parmigiano-Reggiano. Also enjoyable with chocolate puddings and fruity, red-berried desserts.
