Paringa Estate Pinot Gris Mornington Peninsula 2019

The Paringa Estate Pinot Gris has layered aromas of over ripe melon and pear with some smoky hints, richly flavoured and smooth.

Producer Note - Located in the heart of Victoria's beautiful Mornington Peninsula, Paringa Estate was founded in 1984 by Lindsay McCall when he purchased a derelict orchard. Lindsay's passion and fascination with wine began in the mid 1970s and by the mid 1980s he decided to follow his dream by establishing Paringa Estate. The first vintage was in 1988 with just three tonnes of fruit and over the years it has grown considerably, with production now at 16,000 cases. Paringa Estate is one of the most highly awarded boutique wineries in Australia, regularly winning trophies for its Shiraz, Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. The collection includes a stunning and precise Pinot Gris, as Lindsay says anywhere capable of growing great Pinot Noir should be capable of growing great Pinot Gris. The wines pay homage to Burgundy in style and James Halliday says Paringa Estate is “one of the best, if not the best, wineries on the Peninsula'.

Vintage - Cool, windy weather combined with rainfall during the flowering period of 2017 resulted in millerandage (uneven ripening) and dramatically reduced yields. Flowering took place two to three weeks later than 2016 which followed through to a later harvest by two to three weeks. With higher natural acidity levels being a common theme for 2017 whites; Chardonnay & Pinot Gris show great promise, indeed some have said the 'best ever'.

Vineyard - The vineyard is situated in the cool climate sub region of Red Hill at an altitude of 146 metres above sea level. The estate vines are 13 years old and are grown on a distinctive Lyre or U shaped trellis. They provide 50% of the fruit for this wine. The remaining 50% comes from a contracted grower in Moorooduc which is a slightly warmer site and adds complexity and a layered dimension to the wine. The Mornington Peninsula is influenced by the cooling maritime climate, which helps the grapes to retain acidity as they ripen. The soils are generally red basalt, which store sufficient water supplies to keep the vine irrigated through the warm summer season. These soils are the result of ancient lava flows, are iron rich, moderately fertile and drain surface water easily. This results in healthy vines with deep root systems, producing high quality berries that translate into intense, concentrated wines.

Winemaking - The hand-picked fruit was whole bunched pressed to a stainless steel tank, where approximately two thirds of the juice underwent cool fermentation at controlled temperatures of between 12°C to 15°C, retaining the pure fruit aromatics and freshness. The remaining third was barrel fermented in old oak imparting texture and complexity for six months. The wine was filtered using a cross flow filter and gently fined.

Tasting Note - The bouquet has lifted varietal aromas of fresh cut pear and apple. Refreshing on the palate with crisp, ripe pear and vibrant citrus fruit flavours, this has a lovely mid palate texture and balance with a crisp, dry finish.

Serving Suggestion - A delicious accompaniment to fresh tuna, delicate seafood or a charcuterie plate.

Can you explain your shipping charges?

We charge the amount the courier charges us to deliver the wines. In the majority of cases this is £10.00 for a dozen wines. For local delivery we charge £5.00 as we can often do this ourselves, by local we mean Milton Keynes.

Couriers charge by weight and size and a case of wines is both heavy and bulky and so the costs are fairly high. The charges are the same if you are buying 1 bottle or 6 bottles but they change if you go over 6 bottles due the the excess weight and size. Couriers also charge a fee to cover fuel excess and this all goes towards the total cost not to mention the 20% VAT to be added to everything.

Currently if someone orders a dozen wines they are charged £10.00 but if they order 24 bottles the charge is the same!

If you wish to have your wines shipped to other countries the costs are extreemly high and often not worth paying for. The cost for example to ship to the USA for a dozen wines would be £100.00 for the shipping alone! Therefore we have taken the decision not to ship any wines outside of the UK.

What is your minimum order?

The minimum order is 1 bottle! I prefer it if people order more and you get better value with the delivery if you do this too!

What if I want to send wine as a gift?

No problem, we will send to your preferred address and even include a card free of charge!

We have two kinds of cards a blank one and a Thank you one. However if you want a Valentines one or a birthday card or anyother type of card please let us know. We will write your personal greeting and even include the soppy stuff. We don't charge for the cards as its our way of thanking you for choosing us to send a gift to your loved one.

What about a discount?

I may be able to take a little off the price if you ask nicely and there is a large enough order. Please do not ask for a discount on any orders under 12 bottles.  Email me with your requirements and I will let you know if I can do anything. However the best way to get a discount is to sign up for the newsletter as there is often special offers given away to newsletter subscribers.
