Roccolo Grassi Valpolicella Superiore 2014
Marco Sartori is a driven young man. In a few short years he has gone from making his first vintage to one of the hottest new talents in the region. All the wines produced by this modern new winery are world class. Marco's philosophy is very simple, reduce the yields in the vineyard to 1Kg per vine and you obtain fabullous fruit concentration.
The grapes were hand harvested from 10 year old vines grown on a south-easterly aspect. Approx. 60% of the berries were dried on racks for 20 days, they were then pressed and fermented for 20 days. The balance of 40% were fermented separately. Each parcel was aged for 20 months in oak (50% in French barriques of which 20% in new oak) and( 50% in Slovonian oak barrels). The cuvees were then blended and bottled. The wine was then bottled aged for 10 months prior to its release.
Spicy, peppery tobacco-scented nose, with jammy red fruit, sheery and hints of coffee. The wine is elegant and rich with an aromatic complexity and a long, lush finish.
Everyday Serving Suggestion
