Ventolera Litoral Sauvignon Blanc 2017
Ignacio Reccabarren is the godfather of modern winemaking in Chile and he has started a joint venture with cool climate grape grower, Vicente Izquierdo. The vineyards are situated in the trendy cool climate region of Leyda, just 6 miles from the Pacific Ocean. The sea breezes help to produce wonderfully elegant wines.
Vinification
100% Sauvignon Blanc grapes from 10 year-old vineyards. Hand picked on March 24 (block 20, clone 242), March 26 (block 1, clone 242). All grapes were cooled-down to 8 C, in a climate-controlled storage unit. Then the fruit was de-stemmed and sent to a pneumatic press. After pressing we separated the juice into 3 different stainless-steel tanks. Soon after cold settling the juice was racked and inoculated with yeast strains selected to preserve the primary fruit aromas. 100% fermented in small stainless-steel tanks at cool temperature, in order to retain fruit flavors and freshness. After fermentation the wine was aged on its lees for 3 months, then stabalized and carefully prepare for bottling.
Viticulture
Vertical shoot positioning. Canopy management with 18 shoots per meter to protect fruit exposure (less than 15%) and enhance freshness. Two bunches per shoot. We pick grapes from 2 blocks that were planted in 1999 and 2002. The vine rows with South East orientation is block 1 (clone 242).Then with a North East orientation is block 20 (clone 242).
Tasting Note
Litoral Sauvignon Blanc is fresh and bright, brimming with lime, guava, and passionfruit flavours. A touch of freshly cut green peppers and gooseberry. Full flavoured palate, well balanced and vibrant.
